CASCADE
When designing my lamp, I started from the interesting play of colors that light creates in the environment when it falls through a colored glass window.
During my education I discovered the possibilities and the versatile nature of epoxy. The aesthetic properties of the material are comparable to those of glass and yet extremely light. During my search for the design of my lamp, I started experimenting with the possibilities of epoxy. I started to sculpt with the material, so that the boundary between art and design became increasingly smaller. This led to a monumental, functional art piece of 170 epoxy cubes that create a dynamic rhythm of color and light.
My final design is a colorful chandelier that is shaped by a random cascade of epoxy cubes in different shades of yellow. The ribbon blocks are endlessly repeated elements that are all made by hand. They refract and transform the light like ice cubes. By attaching the blocks and ribbons at different heights, a dynamic rhythm of color and light is created.
